We all know the story, if you want true functionality you cannot rely on environmentally friendly products. That used to be true for the textile industry as well, until now. Originating from Swedish clean tech research performed by OrganoClick AB and its academic partners, OrganoTex™ now provides an alternative to synthetic textiles when it comes to durable water repellency.

Benefits with using the OrganoTex™-technology compared with traditionally used water repellents are:

  • Green modification technology enabling highly water repellent textiles
  • Biodegradable
  • Free from fluorocarbons and isocyanates

Technology

OrganoTex™ is a green modification technology conferring highly water repellent properties to cellulose-based textiles (e.g. cotton). It is suitable for any textile manufacturer or textile product brand desiring to combine environmentally friendly textiles with high functionality; something that used to be impossible.

OrganoTex™ achieves its water repellent properties by mimicking natural processes occurring in plants and fruits, thereby allowing a process entirely free of environmentally harmful and highly toxic substances such as fluorocarbons1 and isocyanates2. OrganoTex™ is biodegradable and still provides excellent and durable water repellency during the normal lifetime of textile products.

Uses Features Eco-Benefits
  • New functional areas of use for textiles based on cellulosic fibers including cotton, hemp, linen, viscose, etc.
  • Maintain the eco-friendliness of organic cotton fibers throughout the finishing process.
  • Excellent water repellency
  • Substantially increased resistance to water penetration
  • Durability and resistance to laundering
  • Entirely free of fluorocarbons, isocyanates and formaldehyde
  • Biodegradable, yet stable during the normal lifetime of a textile product
  • Produced in an eco-friendly and energy efficient manner

  1. Many of the frequently used fluorocarbons (e.g. PFOAs) are very persistent in nature and have both toxic and development effects on animals. For more information see: http://www.epa.gov/oppt/pfoa/index.html.
  2. Many isocyanates cause lung disorders and even cancer. For more information see: http://www.osha.gov/SLTC/isocyanates/index.html.
